Over the last few months, we have staged a series of community events aimed at young people who might benefit from additional skills, support and contacts.
The latest event – the Birkenhead Festival – will see fun and games come to the town’s park on Saturday, September 3. Similar events in Widnes and Ellesmere Port proved to be a lifeline for young people over the summer break.
The exciting line-up for the Birkenhead event includes skating, face painting, circus workshops, scooter riding and an inflatable assault course with visits from a range of other organisations, including youth clubs, the emergency services, dance, hula, community, and other support or entertainment groups.
Kevin Bradburne, Youth Fed’s Director of Operations, said: “Birkenhead Festival is not just a way to give youngsters something to do but is a great way of engaging with them and introducing other partner agencies who might be able to help with aspects of life once the fun stops.”
Kevin said more than 1,000 people had attended the events this summer.
“We have been fortunate to meet so many young people throughout the summer. The take-up has been tremendous, and, at the very least, we’ve been able to get the message out that there are organisations that can help with today’s challenges. Not only that, but we’ve opened the door to new skills and experiences in a fun way. Just getting young people out and about can be challenging, especially post-Covid so these events have many positives. A fun-packed afternoon is planned for Birkenhead, and we look forward to meeting and helping many more people,” he added.
The event is being kindly funded by the Skelton Charity (administered through Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services), which supports registered charities in the North West to provide greater opportunities for, and improve the lives of, children, the elderly, those who are disabled and their carers.
Birkenhead Festival will be held on Saturday, September 3, at Birkenhead Park, Park Drive, from 1pm-4pm. Aimed at the 8-19 age brackets, the event is free, and young people can just turn up. However, anyone registering beforehand could be in with a chance of winning a £20 Amazon voucher on the day.
