Our Better Start visits Sci-Tech Daresbury!

The Better Start group recently visited Sci-Tech Daresbury where we explored both the wonders of digital innovation and the complex challenges young people face online.

As part of the session, we unpacked some of the potential dangers in digital relationships—highlighting toxic online behaviours such as coercion, grooming, love bombing, and gaslighting. These discussions helped participants better understand how to recognise and respond to harmful patterns in virtual interactions.

We also toured the Hartree Centre, SciTech’s hub for cutting-edge digital engineering. Here, we witnessed the remarkable ways supercomputing is used to advance research and design—from improving medical studies to shaping vehicle production, and even mapping land to uncover previously inaccessible data. Some of this pioneering work was demonstrated through immersive VR experiences, adding a vivid, interactive dimension to complex findings.

This project is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Additional thanks to Cheshire West and Chester Council for funding our Better Start programme.
