We have decided to withdraw our current planning application for the Our Space Macclesfield youth centre.
While our commitment to building a privately funded, state-of-the-art facility remains unchanged, we felt the design was not yet quite perfect. In particular, we recognised that the plans did not include enough sports facilities to fully meet the needs of young people and satisfy key partners. Sports will be a vital part of Our Space — not only for health and fitness, but also as a way to build skills, confidence, and friendships. We also want to ensure these facilities work seamlessly alongside dedicated spaces for youth work, creative activities, and social opportunities.
By pausing now, we can work with our architects and key stakeholders to create a stronger, more balanced design that:
- Enhances the sports offer.
- Maintains a wide range of youth work and creative spaces.
- Minimises impact on the surrounding community.
- Meets high environmental and sustainability standards.
What’s next? We are now refining our plans and will resubmit the application as soon as we are confident the design achieves the right balance and delivers the best possible facility for young people in Macclesfield.
Our vision for Our Space has not changed — only the timeline. Taking this time now will ensure the centre is the very best it can be for generations to come.
