Youth Fed welcomes any measures that help keep children and young people safe, both online and offline.

As technology continues to play an important role in young people’s lives, it is vital that policymakers, parents, educators, communities and technology companies work together to create safer digital environments.  While social media can provide opportunities for connection, learning and self-expression, it is also important to recognise the risks.

We believe technology companies can and should do more to protect vulnerable users, particularly children and young people.  Alongside regulation and platform accountability, we advocate for greater awareness of digital literacy and online safety. Helping young people develop the skills to navigate the digital world safely is essential, and we encourage parents and carers to have open, honest conversations about their online experiences, behaviours and wellbeing.   At Youth Fed, we are committed to supporting young people, families, schools and communities through our Cyber and Online Safety programme. Delivered in schools, community settings and at our Digital Learning Centre at Sci-Tech Daresbury, the programme helps equip young people with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills they need to stay safe and thrive in an increasingly digital world.

We also believe that any changes to young people’s access to social media must be matched by investment in youth services, community spaces and positive activities.  Ensuring that young people have opportunities to connect, learn and socialise in safe, supportive environments is essential in preventing isolation and supporting their overall wellbeing.

We look forward to seeing further detail on the Government’s proposals and will continue to support initiatives that place the safety, wellbeing and resilience of children and young people at their heart.
