What is it?

This project will focus on healthy eating, eating on a budget and making your food go further. Half the session offering hints and tips, and the second half being a practical and fun sessions, with the opportunity to record their sessions to reach more young people

Sessions will include two elements.
The first half of the session will consist of top hints and tips, such as:
• Eating on a budget
• Accessing community groceries (and/ or foodbanks for those eligible)
• Reducing energy bills
• What time to go to the supermarket, what discount labels to look for
• Batch cooking / freezing items.
• Understanding sell by / use by dates (and reducing waste)
• Supermarket / rewards apps
• Shopping savvy online (using filters to find lowest prices)

The second part of the session will be fun and practical, where young people can make meals, or prepare food to take home to cook. They will explore different textures, tastes and flavours, benefits of introducing vegetarian dishes into their diets (instead of or as well as meat/fish dishes), using fun and easy recipes, being creative with their own recipes, and making something out of an item that they may normally throw away.

There will be resources for young people to take away with them that they can use (as well as their parents and siblings). This will help to embed their learning and be practical tools they can use at home.

Ends March 2023.
