What is it?
Mental health and wellbeing support
Our service engages and supports CYP and we take a holistic, preventative approach to increase resilience and work with families/other role models (eg youth workers, teachers, group leaders) to improve capacity to identify and respond to mental health concerns.
Using the protective factor of a trusted adult/role model, our approach ensures young people can easily find help at an early point, providing alternatives to crisis/higher tier services which are subject to waiting lists/high thresholds. Our beneficiary target groups are broad and include:
• Those transitioning to secondary school and also post 16 learning/work
• Those with escalating mental ill health
• Those who are on CAMHS waiting lists who need stabilizing support whilst waiting
• Individuals with disabilities, additional learning needs or neurodiverse young people
• Young people who are facing personal barriers such as poverty, challenging family relationships/no role models, homeless/vulnerably housed, substance abuse issues, young carers, are in the care system or are care leavers.
Youth Fed’s service delivers crucial mental health support face-to-face, online, via the telephone and video call and addresses needs through:
• Clinically-trained Emotional Health and Wellbeing Worker delivering targeted, high/low intensity interventions
• Supporting staff who hold a variety of qualifications (Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England Instructor, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy accreditation and Winston’s Wish bereavement training) who are also qualified youth workers
• Delivering evidence-based interventions including individual and groups therapy
• Guided sessions on topics such as depression, anxiety, coping with stress
• Support individuals to access health services or other support
• Delivering training (MHFA and general awareness) to youth work staff, volunteers parents/guardians, and schools to equip them to appropriately support CYP in distress
• Support for 6-12 weeks, or as long as required
• Service delivery times between 8am and 8pm
